Let’s talk about Fullerene and why you need to use it…

It’s not every day that we get to encounter an exciting and unique ingredient such as the Fullerene. In fact, it is so exciting that the Nobel Prize committee has decided to grant the inventors that discovered this breath-taking molecule a Nobel Prize in chemistry (Richard E. Smalley and Robert F. Curl Jr. of Rice University in Houston, and Harold W. Kroto of the University of Sussex in Brighton, United Kingdom) back in 1996. So, if you haven’t had the opportunity to hear about the Fullerene so far, don’t panic!  Sit back, read this post and you’ll become a real Fullerene expert and possibly its new biggest fan…

What is Fullerene and how on earth did it get its name?

Until it was discovered in 1985, crystalline carbon was thought to adopt only a few different molecular architectures, including those found in diamond and graphite. When the Fullerene was theoretical discovered in 1980 and in the lab in 1985, a whole new world of almost infinite number of carbon molecule structure was discovered.

One of the form of the Fullerene molecule is 60 carbon atoms arranged in hexagons like a soccer ball.  the name comes from the Montreal Biosphere that was design by Buckminster Fuller, thus, the Fullerene is sometimes called the Buckyballs.

Skincare’s latest phenomenon

Fullerene has been getting a lot of attention recently, as this is a relatively new (and VERY expensive) ingredient that has recently been introduced to the skincare world!  In skincare, we refer to fullerene as THE ultimate antioxidant ingredient, which means that it can protect our skin cells from free radicals. These free radicals that alter our DNA are primary causes for aging, cancer, and other diseases, so having an ingredient to protect against those is a must. Additionally, when comparing fullerene to other strong antioxidants, it is important to note that it is 250! more effective than Vitamin C! This is really saying something, as Vitamin C has also gotten a lot of attention in the skincare world, and is considered one of the strongest antioxidants, but it is not as stable or as small as a fullerene molecule. Now, when we say Fullerene is a small molecule, we mean that it is tiny, which is actually a really good thing, because that means it can absorb better and more easily into your skin. I guess bigger isn’t always better!

What is all the buzz about this ingredient?

Now that we understand the structure and makeup of Fullerene, let’s dig deeper into what it actually does. As discussed above, fullerene is an antioxidant, and protects our skin cells from free radicals. However, it does so much more than that! Fullerene is also good for acne, as it prevents against breakouts and controls the skin’s oil productions. In addition to this, fullerene helps with skin texture, tightening pores, brightening the skin, and reducing redness! It is actually incredible how many functions this one ingredient can have.

So, should I be using skincare with fullerene?

The short answer to this is absolutely yes! Fullerene is so beneficial to our skin, and can address numerous different skincare concerns, which means you should give this molecule a chance! Fullerene is quite a luxurious skincare ingredient, which means it can be difficult to find. So, if you are searching for products with this ingredient, Noon Aesthetics has two incredible options for you:

  • The Restart Serum, which helps to protect the skin from the effects of environmental stress factors, while also improving the condition of the skin (especially in terms of aging);
  • OMG – Optimal Moisturizing Guardian, which aims to restore your skin’s barrier by helping it to become  healthier, hydrated, smooth, and flexible.

As mentioned before, Fullerene is a very expensive ingredient, which means it is quite difficult to find in everyday skincare products. Therefore, it is pretty incredible Noon Aesthetics has these options available with fullerene being key ingredients!

Main Takeaway Point: Fullerene is a highly effective skincare antioxidant, which can be used for treating hyperpigmentation, skin texture, acne, redness, and so much more! It can come in many different forms, but overall the small size of this molecule means it can absorb better into your skin, making this ingredient that much more effective!
